Let’s Explore Inside The Dossier Creative Lab

Travel around Europe with us to get a sense of the people, phases, and particular details that go into making every single Dossier perfume.

Welcome to the Dossier Creative Lab Documentary, a short film created to offer you a behind-the-scenes look at how Dossier perfumes come to life from idea to sampling, supply chain, and more noteworthy anecdotes in between.  From Bulgaria to Paris and the South of France, follow Ines Guien, our VP of Operations, and her team as they travel to meet all our suppliers across the Atlantic. Now, it’s time to leave NYC. As the French say, c’est parti!

Destination 1: Bulgaria in Bloom

Bon Voyage! Now, First…Apéro. Ines and the rest of the Dossier team first arrived in Plovdiv, a major city that’s two hours away from Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, near the rose fields. Join us for a spritz and chat before heading to this beautiful sight. Santé!

A Rose-Colored Welcome. Once Ines and the team arrived, they were greeted with necklaces––fully made of fresh pink roses from the gardens. The scent of the lush roses was like the scene––both were très magnifique!  While strolling through the rose field, Ines shares an important “fun fact” you might’ve not known. There are only two places in the world where you can source roses for perfume––Turkey and Bulgaria. Working with our supplier to create these rose-infused fragrances for you is truly one (of two) of a kind. Take in the scene of the rose valley…lush rows of fresh roses, beautiful mountains, and one of the greatest sources of inspiration for new Dossier perfume creations. (Stay tuned for our Paris Episode for a BTS look at our perfume brainstorming session!) We Pick These Blooms For You. Ines and the rest of the Dossier team lived everyone’s dream and spent their morning handpicking roses from the vast rows of rose bushes. Wait, it gets even cooler! These same blooms will later be used to create new Dossier perfumes. Our tour guide, one of the leads who oversees the oil manufacturing site, then shared more about the rose garden and why it’s such a special place––from an environmental and eye-candy POV. He explains the topography of the region––the valley between the two mountains––creates a uniquely humid climate that’s ideal for rose harvesting. All of the roses are picked by hand to preserve their delicate structure and characteristics that make them smell beautiful in perfumes. He stresses that it’s essential that all the roses be transformed into oil (used in perfumes and other beauty products) on the same day that they’re picked from their steam in the garden. Otherwise, the structure is no longer viable. Stop & Smell The Roses. If you didn’t already know, rose blooms are night owls through and through. Another fun fact from Ines: Roses only grow at night. So, the garden’s staff need to be up bright and early––picking all of the roses between sunrise and noon. Once the day unfolds into the afternoon, the oil from the roses begins to evaporate. TL;DR: A mid-afternoon slump is not great for perfume-making After all the roses are picked for the day, they’re sent to the factory to distill the perfume oil. Watch the video to see the bags of freshly-picked pink roses––ready to be made into (Dossier) perfumes.t Roses All The Way. Ines and the team spent the rest of the day experiencing the bushels of roses picked for perfume-making that day––touching, holding, and smelling the fragrant and beautiful blooms. Our factory in Bulgaria produces 20% of all Bulgarian roses transformed into perfume oils for usage around the world. Several Dossier perfumes contain these Damask Roses (the Bulgarian rose) including:

For our Dossier Creative Lab and product development teams to flourish, the Dossier team knows it’s crucial to know everything about the oils we order and to take a look behind the scenes.  From harvesting our raw ingredients to seeing how they’re processed and meeting with our suppliers face-to-face, we couldn’t be more grateful for our experience in the Bulgaria rose garden.

Destination 2: Brainstorm in Bulgaria

Good Morning, Bulgaria!
First, we join Ines and the Dossier team on the bus to kick off a sunny, vibrant day in Bulgaria to browse street markets, enjoy the city’s nature and wildlife, and admire the Bachkovo Monastery––just look at these beautiful frescoes!

Sit Down For Our Smell Session
After a few hours of exploring Plovdiv, the Dossier team sat down at a hotel in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, for a smell session to brainstorm more new Dossier fragrances to release in 2025. They took their sample from the rose oil supplier’s factory they visited yesterday after a magical trip to the rose garden.

This hotel brainstorm is the first time they’re properly smelling this freshly picked rose oil. Upon first sniff, Ines believes it’s the perfect base for one unreleased new fragrance that’s already scheduled to drop in 2025. Here’s one hint: It’s going to have a floral rose base.  Keep your eyes, ears, and nose open for more details on this upcoming fragrance (soon!).

Testing, Testing, Testing
It’s what our Operations team spends a lot of their time doing at Dossier. See a behind-the-scenes look at how all the Dossier perfumes you now know and love began. For this special destination smell session, Ines and her team laid out a spread of oils and test strips to immerse themselves in the notes––how can they be described? What’s the vibe? What other notes could they be paired with to make the next Dossier-worthy fragrance?

Epiphanies are common during smell sessions. And, a lot of the names of your favorite perfumes were confirmed around tables that once looked like this. We hope you appreciate seeing this human and creative side that goes into the making of your favorite spritz.

Destination 3: Packing Up In Paris

Voilà, You’ve Got A Package From Dossier
Bienvenue from France! While in the home country of our nose and perfume manufacturers, Ines will take you through the team’s trip to Paris for their annual visit to Dossier’s box supplier.

The Dossier team ensures we visit all of our key partners in person once a year. It’s a great time to meet with these external teams face-to-face and ensure our top-quality standards are still being met.

Big Things 🤝 Small Packages
We’re committed to offering a premium-quality fragrance experience––including with our packaging. Beyond the bottle, all of our packaging is sustainably made with 100% recyclable materials.

Let’s Unwrap Something NEW?!
Ines just announced some exciting news! Dossier Team is creating new packaging that’s set to drop soon.

What’s cool about this debut: Dossier Impressions and Dossier Originals will (hopefully) soon each have their own unique, dedicated packaging. This new collection-specific packaging will make it easier to identify which perfumes are on your display and just make each fragrance feel more special.

Enjoy the BTS and stay tuned for this newness arriving soon!

Destination 4: Let’s Touch Grasse

Nice to See You Here!
We’ve made it from the city to la sieste territory. Greetings from Nice, France!

Ines and the team kicked off their first day in the South of France with a beachside working session to ideate the 2025 Dossier perfume lineup.

Next up, we’re heading to Grasse to meet with our perfumers!

Our Grasse Is Always Greener
Take in the beautiful views. Put on your lab coat (and shoes!). It’s time to see everything that goes into making every single one of Dossier’s perfumes.

Ines gives us a rundown of how Dossier perfumes come to life––right in the heart of the fragrance capital of the world.

Notes From The Dossier Creative Lab
Bonjour from our factories in Grasse!

Every spritz perfume, candle, or room diffuser you choose was crafted here in Grasse before arriving at your doorstep. Let’s take a look around and let a lay (or spritz) of the land.

Our suppliers source the ingredients used in our 100+ perfumes from all over the world and deliver them to this facility in Grasse. Inside these foundational walls of our Dossier Creative Lab, our in-house team creates unique oils from these carefully sourced ingredients to make all of our Dossier fragrances.

Once our custom Dossier perfume oils are made, we’re one step closer to bottling the final fragrances you know and love.

Behind The Dossier Spritz
Ines shares how every (premium-quality) perfume is constructed of so many different facets. 80% of our fragrance volume needs to be crafted by hand, so no small details are missed.

This level of precision is essential to offer a Dossier-level luxury perfume experience with each spritz and sniff.

Our suppliers understand the perfect balance between the art and the science behind Dossier perfumes. They have a system in place to maintain uniform quality control among each batch (and bottle) of Dossier fragrance. Every single raw material is weighed, measured, and compared to the previous batch to ensure there are no discrepancies and the (top) quality remains the same among all previous and new batches of our Dossier perfumes.

Once the batch is up to our luxury-grade standards, the essence is taken to craft its destined perfume, candle, or room diffuser. Each product is quality-checked one by one to ensure it smells très bon

Let’s take a minute to touch Grasse. Stop and smell the perfumes.

Thank you for joining us throughout our entire journey exploring the different layers of our Creative Lab throughout the EU.
Now, it’s time to say a scent-sational bid adieu!
